The Mission

Raising Spinal Cord Injury Awareness

Improving the lives of individuals with Spinal Cord Injuries is at the center of our work. We aim to do this through funding research and supportive care, as well as building community awareness. Learn more about our partner programs and the incredible progress being made in the fight against paralysis below.

Who are we?

Co-founders Ciara O'Sullivan (R) and Larissa Clifford (L)

We became friends while attending FSU and both moved to NYC, where we began working in craft beer, in 2009. Ciara's sister, Siobhan, sustained a C5 SCI in 2013, which is the inspiration for Cycle for SCI.

What are we doing?

Riding our bikes down the east coast September 2018

Starting in NYC and ending in Orlando, FL, we plan to raise spinal cord injury awareness by biking 1,300 miles and throwing some killer events along the way. Check out our stops near you!

Who are we supporting?

We will be working with local chapters of United Spinal along our route to provide physical therapy and quality of life resources for individuals in their communities.

Wings for Life is a not-for-profit spinal cord research foundation. Their mission is to find a cure for spinal cord injury. They fund world-class scientific research and clinical trials around the globe aimed at healing the injured spinal cord.  100% of all donations are used for research purposes because all administrative costs are kindly covered by the Red Bull Company.

University of Maryland Rehabilitation and Orthopaedic Institute's Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation Program provides medical care and therapeutic activities tailored to each patient's individual goals, needs and abilities. Comprehensive rehabilitation services are provided to help patients recover daily living skills, achieve community re-entry, and address any problems in areas such as range of motion, self care skills, and bowel and bladder management.

The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis is the world’s most comprehensive research center dedicated to finding more effective treatments and, ultimately, a cure for paralysis resulting from spinal cord injury.  It is also one of the leading traumatic brain injury research centers.  The Miami Project has more FDA Approved Clinical Trials targeting paralysis than any other research center in the world and have begun to see a return of sensation and function is some research participants.  We have chosen to support this organization primarily because of their work with cell implantation and pain management.

This is the recovery center in Orlando where Siobhan attends PT. They provide an activity-based neuro recovery program with a focus on health and independence along with an incredible community.

Our inspiration for starting Cycle for SCI was after Siobhan, Ciara's sister, sustained a spinal cord injury at the C5 level, resulting in quadriplegia. Siobhan proves to be an inspiration day after day to not only us, but everyone around her. We are riding to help better the life of Siobhan and everyone else living with spinal cord injuries.

We are also proud to contribute to the organizations below and believe they are leading their fields. We aim to fund a variety of research spanning pain management, cell therapy, spasticity, epidural stimulation, and more. Click on an organization's name below to learn about their mission.
